Semtech advanced MOSFET-based surge protection technology outperforms traditional TVS diodes
Semtech SurgeSwitch® technology delivers a unique approach to surge protection as USB power delivery systems scale up to 240 W via an extended power range (EPR). Traditional TVS diodes struggle with rising clamping voltages and temperature instability at these power levels. SurgeSwitch MOSFET-based devices provide 30% lower clamping voltage, superior thermal stability, and endurance exceeding 200,000 surge events. These solutions safeguard VBUS lines and high-speed USB Type-C data ports without compromising signal integrity, protecting smartphones, laptops, gaming systems, and industrial equipment from ESD, EFT, and surge threats.
